City of Parramatta
Producer Contemporary Performance: The role is responsible for leading the delivery of Riverside’s program of theatre, music, dance and comedy for general audiences. Working with established arts organisations, commercial producers and promoters, the role provides the community with outstanding artistic experiences, community cohesion, a positive reputation and delivers both cultural and economic outcomes for the City of Parramatta. Producer (Term Contract): This key Producer role is responsible for implementing and delivering the productions of the National Theatre of Parramatta shows and programs at Riverside Theatres and on tour. Supporting the Executive and Creative Producer to deliver and implement the National Theatre of Parramatta programs and productions internally and externally, this position plays a pivotal role in promoting Riverside Theatres as a centre of excellence in performing arts, events and exhibitions in Western Sydney region.

Awards and Prizes
- 2024 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards: Calling all writers! The State Library of NSW is now accepting entries for the 2024 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards.
A total prize pool of $315,000 will be awarded across all genres of writing including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, writing for children and young adults, play and scriptwriting. All works must have been first published, performed, screened or broadcast and made publicly available between 1 October 2022 and 30 September 2023. Entries close at 5 pm, Friday 6 October 2023.
- 2023 Judith Wright Poetry Prize: Established in 2007 and supported by the Malcolm Robertson Foundation, the Overland Judith Wright Poetry Prize for New and Emerging Poets seeks poetry by writers who have published no more than one collection of poems under their own name (that is writers who’ve had zero collections published, or one solo collection published). It remains one of the richest prizes for emerging poets, and is open to poets anywhere in the world. In 2023, the major prize is $6000, with a second prize of $2000 and a third prize of $1000. All three winners will be published in Overland. The prize closes 11.59 pm Friday 20 October 2023.

- 2024 Stella Prize: The Stella Prize is a major literary award celebrating Australian women and non-binary writers. The $60,000 prize is awarded annually to one outstanding book of fiction, non-fiction or poetry. Books entered in the 2024 Stella Prize must be first published between 1 January and 31 December 2023. Books published between 14 October and 31 December 2023 can enter. Send your entries before 5pm AEST Friday 8 September 2023 to receive the early-bird pricing (AU$66).
- Helen Anne Bell Poetry Bequest Award 2023: Applications are open for the Helen Anne Bell Poetry Bequest Award recognising talented female poets. Presented by the University of Sydney, the biennial award is funded by the generous bequest of a former student of the university Helen Anne Bell. In its fifth round, now the richest poetry cash prize in Australia, the award offers $40,000 to the recipient for her collection of poems reflecting Australian culture. The winning collection will be published by Vagabond Press. Female and female identifying poets can submit a collection of poems between 50 to 80 pages, to be judged by three distinguished Australian female poets. Entries close on Monday 18 December 2023 at 11.59pm (AEST).
- The Parramatta Laureate in Literature: The Laureateship recognises the unique and vital work of writers as contributors to narratives of place – through storying, remembering histories, and shaping a creative vision for our shared future. This is an exciting new opportunity to put literature at the heart of cultural conversations and art practice within the Parramatta region. The inaugural Parramatta Laureate in Literature will be awarded $50,000 from the time of appointment in late 2023 to program completion in December 2024. Applications close on 20 October 2023.
- 2024 Blacktown City Art Prize: The Blacktown City Art Prize invites work from artists currently residing in Australia across a diverse range of mediums including painting, drawing, photo media, textiles, mixed media, sculpture, and ceramics. Finalists’ work will be exhibited at The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre in 2024 and will be on sale to the public. Entries close 30 October 2023 at 5 pm.
Creative Australia have numerous awards that recognise and celebrate the outstanding work and achievements of First Nations artists and arts workers. The awards will be presented at the 2024 First Nations Arts and Culture Awards.
First Nations Emerging Career Development Award: This award was established in 2019 through the generous contributions of Creative Australia’s Workplace Giving scheme. Two awards of $10,000 are given to First Nations artists or arts workers between 18 and 30 years old to fund their professional development. This multi-artform opportunity is available to artists practicing in community arts and cultural development, dance, experimental arts, literature, multi-arts, music, theatre and/or visual arts. Applications close: Tuesday 10 October 2023, 3pm AEDT.
Dreaming Award: Established in 2012, the Dreaming Award supports First Nations artists aged 18-30 to create a major body of work in mentorship or partnership with an established professional artist nominated by the applicant. The mentor/partner guides and advises in the development of the new work.
Two Dreaming Awards will be offered in 2024 by the First Nations Strategy Panel. The recipients of these Awards will receive $20,000 each. Applications close: Tuesday 10 October 2023, 3pm AEDT.
Red Ochre Award (Lifetime Achievement):The prestigious Red Ochre Award was established by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Board in 1993 to pay tribute to a senior Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person for their outstanding lifetime achievement in the arts and their contribution to the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts, both nationally and internationally. The Red Ochre Award includes recognition of both an outstanding senior male artist and an outstanding senior female artist. The recipients of these Awards will receive $50,000 each. These awards will be presented at the First Nations Arts and Culture Awards. Applications close: Tuesday 10 October 2023, 3pm AEDT.
Events and Workshop
Arts on Tour Lab 2023: Tour Lab will provide practical advice, information and resources, as well as networking opportunities for independent artists, producers, and companies who are new to touring or want to learn what it takes to get a show on the road. The program includes venue managers, experienced independent touring artists and the Arts on Tour team to answer your questions. We’ll cover a range of topics including: selling your production to venue managers, budgeting your tour, grants and more.

CBCity – Art Therapy Workshop: CBCity and Wellways, Carer Gateway Services would like to invite individuals to join our art therapy workshop. GIRLS IN BOYS’ CARS YOUTH EVENT: Join for a night of interactive fun celebrating art, music, and food from right here in Western Sydney and the rural towns featured in Girls in Boys’ Cars. The night will include live music from local R&B artist Charnel Rizk, a photo booth inspired by Asheeka and Rosa’s road trip, the opportunity to share your own road trip stories with an interactive Graffiti wall, and artworks showcased by community artists from the towns visited in the play. Goodie bags will also be given out to the first arrivals to our event, so be sure to make it in time for those!

Talking Writing – Debut Authors: Talking Writing is our regular themed writing event, designed to explore the limits of what writing is and where it can take you. Expression of Interest and Callouts
- NIDA Playwriting EOI: NIDA is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from playwrights to create original, compelling works for potential production in either our 2025 or 2026 production seasons.Two commissions are available. Each commission will involve subsequent creative development periods. NIDA productions are usually presented in our five theatres ranging from 80-700 seats – but ideas for other environments are welcome – and usually with casts of between 3 and 12.The productions are helmed by professional directors, created under professional conditions, and are a key part of our education and training. They showcase the many talents of our students, who come from diverse backgrounds.Guidelines:We invite playwrights, both emerging and established, to submit their EOIs for consideration. We are particularly interested in underrepresented voices, works that engage with contemporary societal concerns, works that provide students across disciplines with stimulating challenges, and works that employ inventive narrative or theatrical forms, including works that engage with technology. Mostly, we are interested in works that will make for compelling connections between artists and audiences.Benefits:The selected playwrights will receive a standard, AWG commissioning fee.

Mad Pride 2023: Weave is looking for young people to submit their artwork and/or to perform at Mad Pride 2023. It is a free event designed for and by young people. It’s an opportunity to celebrate young people’s creativity, and break down the stigma around mental health experiences. This year’s theme for Mental Health Month is ‘We all have a role to play’. Artists and performers can interpret and be inspired by the theme, or they can express themselves or their experiences of mental health freely. Sharp Short Dance 2023: Sharp Short Dance is a one-of-a-kind Australian youth dance festival unearthing the finest young dancers and choreographers from Sydney and beyond. The festival provides a rare platform for aspiring choreographers and dancers, 21 years and under to display their works in a supportive environment. Sharp Short Dance inspires young performers to strive for artistic excellence and actively engages dance artists in all genres and media of dance. Registrations close 12th October 2023.
Prosper (Project Australia) – Film Crew Wanted: Prosper (Project Australia) is a multi-award-winning community organisation supporting children, young people and their families. We are now recruiting for the production of a youth-led short film that deals with the topic of domestic and family violence. This is a youth led project so in order to apply for one of these roles you must be between the ages of 18 – 23. Roles including: location and logistics, editing, camera and lighting, wardrobe and make-up, promotion/marketing and advertising. No experience necessary. ‘Looking to the Future’ EOI – First Nations Art Commission for NSW Legislative Council Bicentenary: The NSW Legislative Council seeks to commission an artwork created by a NSW-based Aboriginal artist, to be installed within the public exhibition and foyer spaces of NSW Parliament House on Macquarie Street, Sydney. The artwork is an important part of activities commemorating the Bicentenary of the NSW Legislative Council, which falls in August 2024 and marks 200 years since the newly established Council sat for the first time. The Bicentenary is more than just an important milestone for the Council – it’s a celebration of two centuries of evolving democracy for Australia. EOIs close on 19 October.
Banksmeadow Logistic Artwork open expression of interest: Stockland Banksmeadow Logistics Centre is inviting Expression of Interest (EOI) submissions from professional Australian artists aged 18 and over. The project entails creating a custom artwork to enrich a significant residential boundary wall. This artwork will be featured on a large-scale perforated screen fence and etched onto concrete tilt-up panels, seamlessly integrating with the adjacent Australian landscaped nature strip, measuring approximately 86 meters in length and 13 meters in height. The selected artist or artist group will collaborate with our design and construction team to refine the design, which will then be produced and installed by a contractor engaged by Stockland. Submission deadline Sunday 22nd of October 2023.
Grants, Mentorships and Residencies
Carstairs Grant: The Carstairs Grant aims to support socially-engaged art projects that embrace participatory and collaborative experiences and bring participants into active dialogue with the artist/s in order to involve audiences beyond the art community. The grant is intended to contribute to artwork production costs to assist the successful applicant/s to develop and present new work. In recognition of ongoing public health concerns and the challenges they can pose to participatory experiences, proposals may, but are not required to, consider the digital and virtual space as a valid and essential arena for collaborative artistic endeavour. Applications close: 22 October 2023, 23:59 AEST.
The Hab Projects Platform: The platform’s goal is to award numerous creative grants from $1,000 – $5,000 to help artistic and creative ventures.
2024 Boundless Indigenous Writer’s Mentorship program:Writing NSW and Text Publishing present the 2024 Boundless Indigenous Writer’s Mentorship, with support from Booktopia and the First Nations Australia Writers Network (FNAWN). The mentorship is awarded annually to an unpublished Indigenous writer who has made substantial progress on a work of fiction or non-fiction. The intention of the program is to support the writer to develop their manuscript and to facilitate a pathway to publication. Applications close midnight Sunday 26 November.
Critical Path 2024 Choreographic Residencies: NSW artists with a choreographic practice are invited to propose research projects that focus on explorations of new ideas or practice development without a pre-determined product outcome. Each residency offers $10,000 AUD and up to three weeks of space in-kind at the Drill Hall. You will be asked to select the preferred period of your residency, between March and December 2024. You can ask to use as much or as little of the space as suits your process/project. The responsive residencies are not available for creative development of new work, though they may allow early terrain explorations or deep digging into particular ideas and concerns.
