Change is coming

Dear People,

I’m watching the fig tree birds congregate in the tree outside my window whose view I have enjoyed for the last eight years, watching the changing skies, the cycle of leaves drying, falling and becoming soil – only then to spring green shoots and become vibrant again as summer approaches.

This reflection reminds me that all things pass and so my time running the arts and cultural program here at Outloud (formerly BYDS) also approaches its end.

Outloud – a new name

Over the last 27 years, BYDS has initiated and executed over eight hundreds arts and cultural projects with the communities of Bankstown and surrounds. Over that time we helped develop scores of young artists from the area as well as provide a platform for thousands of young people to have their voices heard using high quality community arts.

Our work output has changed over the years, due to changing technology, shifting demography and new and urgent societal issues arising – but our reason for being here and doing what we do over all these years has stayed the same – we engage excellent, local artists and facilitators to transform our community’s ideas, aspirations and stories into engaging, thought provoking art that can be shared across platforms and is always of the highest quality.

It is with that in mind, we’d like to announce that BYDS has a new name.

Why Vote For Us?

BYDS has been running community art programs for the last 25+ years and are well positioned with connections to local schools, young people, and artists to bring Courtroom Slam together. In the last year we’ve worked with 13 schools and thousands of community members across writing, oral history and music programs. We are excited by the prospect of working with even more young people and creating amazing art alongside Story Factory, an organisation that we have worked with closely over the last few years. This unique partnership will bring more valuable opportunities to the young people we work with.

Don’t wait and vote right now!

BYDS Breakdown – February Newsletter

It is my joyful duty to announce that the BYDS team are back after a well deserved break. We have already kicked off for 2019 and promise you many programs and projects to get involved in and support.

I had the great fortune to spend some down time with my son Rahul and his dog Bodhi in the old growth forests of East Gipplsland, soaking up the exquisite oxygen and re-programming myself in that unique way.

I hope you can stay with BYDS in 2019 as we embark on some surprises….

BYDS Breakdown – December Newsletter

As the last of the jacaranda blossoms fall to the ground, I reflect on the beautiful works that our team here at BYDS have created with our communities right up to year’s end. What our team has created is significant to the individuals themselves as well as their families and our wider community.

Zainab Kadhim, Craig Taunton, Jessica Paraha, David Miller, Ola Elhassan, Christopher Woes, Kavita Bedford, Amanda Smith, Tim Wall, Willem Booker, Hana Mansour, Fadle El Harris, Isabella Henriques, Hope Sankari, Bilal Hafda, Vyvienne Abla, Bankstown Poetry Slam, Kevin Ngo and so many people at so many schools, community organisations and all of the staff at the Bankstown Arts Centre enable us to do what we do.

Huge thanks to all – I really do love my team.

We have an exciting 2019 ahead of us artistically and we invite you to stay attached to us throughout that.

The team at BYDS wishes you a safe and happy holiday and the wish that 2019 brings more amazing experiences to you and yours in a more equitable world.
